ankle pain

Does this sound like your hip?

Maybe the first steps out of bed have become something you brace for. Maybe you stopped running, or you're on your feet all day at work and by mid-afternoon you're counting the hours. Maybe your ankle rolls on uneven ground and you've started watching where you step.

Or maybe you've already tried orthotics, physical therapy, cortisone, or months of rest, and you're wondering what comes next.

Foot and ankle pain commonly shows up as:

  • Heel pain, especially with the first steps in the morning

  • Pain in the arch or the ball of the foot

  • Aching, stiffness, or swelling in the ankle

  • An ankle that feels unstable or gives way

  • Pain along the back of the heel or up the Achilles tendon

  • Pain when walking, running, or standing for long periods

  • Trouble finding shoes that don't hurt

  • Pain that keeps returning despite previous treatment

The symptom matters. But what is causing it matters more.

What may be causing your foot & ankle pain?

Ankle and foot arthritis

Cartilage in the ankle or foot joints wears down, often years after an old injury. Stiffness, swelling, and pain with walking are common.

Plantar fasciitis and heel pain

The plantar fascia is the thick band along the bottom of your foot. When it's irritated, the heel and arch hurt, usually worst on the first steps of the day. Many cases improve with time and simple care. The ones we see are the ones that haven't.

Achilles and other tendon problems

Tendons take a beating in the foot and ankle. Achilles tendinopathy and peroneal tendon problems often come from overuse, and they can linger for months.

Sprains and chronic ankle instability

One bad sprain can leave ligaments stretched and an ankle that keeps giving way. Repeated sprains can also wear on the joint over time.

Ball-of-foot pain

Pressure across the front of the foot can cause a burning or sharp pain with walking, from overuse, footwear, or foot mechanics.

Structural injury

Not all foot and ankle pain belongs in a regenerative medicine clinic. Fractures, complete tendon ruptures, significant deformity, bunions, and advanced joint destruction may require orthopedic or podiatric evaluation or surgery.

Where does regenerative medicine fit?

If you've already tried rest, physical therapy, anti-inflammatory medications, cortisone, or other conservative treatments, you may be wondering what comes next.

For some patients, regenerative medicine may be an option worth exploring.

Regenerative treatments use biologic therapies as part of an effort to support the biological environment within and around injured or degenerative tissue.

But there's an important distinction: Regenerative medicine isn't one treatment.

PRP isn't the same as an exosome product. Exosomes aren't stem cells. Cellular products aren't all the same.

And the right approach depends on what we're actually treating.

The question isn't “Which injection should I get?”

It's “What's causing my pain, and what treatment makes sense for it?”

WHY NEOWELL REGEN

We don't have one foot & ankle injection.

We have treatment options.

At NeoWell Regen, we have access to several regenerative products and protocols. What we recommend depends on the condition we're treating, the degree of degeneration, your previous treatment history, overall health, and your goals.

That may include different biologic or cellular approaches depending on your individual case.

And sometimes our recommendation is not to treat you.

If your foot & ankle appears too structurally compromised, your condition falls outside what we believe regenerative treatment can reasonably address, or we believe you need a different type of specialist, we'll tell you.

Because the goal isn't to sell you an injection.

The goal is to help you make a better decision about your foot & ankle.

What treatment actually looks like

It starts with a conversation, not an injection.

1

We understand the problem

We talk through your symptoms, diagnosis, previous treatments, imaging when available, health history, and importantly, what your knee is keeping you from doing.

2

We determine candidacy

Not every patient is a regenerative medicine candidate. We look at the type and extent of joint damage and whether we believe treatment is reasonable for your particular situation.

3

We build your treatment plan

If you're a candidate, we'll explain what we're recommending, what is being used, why we've selected it, the treatment sequence, cost, and what you can realistically expect.

4

We follow your progress

Regenerative treatment isn't an overnight fix. Response occurs over time, and we follow your progress rather than treating the injection as the end of the relationship.

Do I have to have surgery?

Not necessarily.

But we also won't tell you regenerative medicine can replace every foot and ankle surgery, because it can't.

Some people with chronic degenerative or overuse pain may have enough healthy tissue remaining that a non-surgical treatment is worth exploring before fusion, ligament reconstruction, or ankle replacement.

Other feet and ankles are simply too structurally damaged.

Regenerative treatment may be worth exploring when:

Your pain is related to arthritis, tendon degeneration, or chronic overuse

Rest, orthotics, physical therapy, or cortisone haven't given you enough relief

You still have meaningful joint or tendon structure remaining

You're looking for non-surgical options

You want to understand your options before committing to surgery

Surgery may make more sense when:

There is a fracture or a complete tendon rupture

The ankle is unstable and giving way repeatedly

There is significant deformity, including bunions that need correcting

Joint degeneration is advanced or bone-on-bone

A structural problem requires mechanical repair
